French Films Dubbed into English

topic posted Wed, July 14, 2004 - 5:45 AM by  Lauren
I am very curious to know if anyone, anywhere has seen the English version of the following French films (in the cinema or on DVD or on airplanes, etc.)...

Amelie Poulain/Amelia from Montmartre (Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amelie Poulain)
Brotherhood of the Wolf (Le Pacte des Loups)
Pure Panic (Vertiges de l'Amour)
Part Time Cops (Les Ripoux 3)
Total Kheops

Please let me know... and let me know how you liked the English version...

Thanks L. A-L

Yes, Brotherhood of the Wolf was truly terrible!

      Thanks for the responses...

It's not the quality of the movie I'm after, it's whether or not you actually saw the English version???

Brotherhood is well known here in France as a horrible movie, yes, much like a soap opera, however it made a tremendous amount of money for a French film... (I have no idea how or why!!)

I know VERY WELL that the movie is awful! It was my job to write the English version, cast the actors and actually direct the dubbing into English! And actually smile and coo during the screening attended by the studio and the director!!!

Not to mention that I had to do THREE versions of this movie, the English, the American and the ever popular LONG VERSION (as if the movie wasn't long enough already!)

All of the movies listed in the above posting are French films for which I wrote and directed the English version. I am curious to know if my versions are being seen in the US...

      Thanks for the feedback

Ahh, I suspected you might have been involved with the dubbing industry!

Unfortunately, I don't know if this is the best forum for your question, if only because most international film enthusiasts(myself included) MUCH prefer subtitled versions and original languages.

But your English versions are on the DVDs of these films, are they not? Perhaps I'll go out of my way to look for them.

          Thanks for the response...

My versions SHOULD BE on the DVDs... that's what I'm trying to find out! My English version of Brotherhood IS on the DVD (therefore I will be getting paid my author's rights) and I am trying to find out if the English versions of the other films have been released, so I can know what to expect re royalties ;-)

Although I enjoy my job, I prefer to watch the original version of ANY film w/ subtitles or not, depending upon if I speak the language of the film in question... I must agree with you...

However, the job is challenging... My entire version has to be synch, both in the writing and in the acting/recording so the writing and the directing are complicated but enjoyable.

In any case, let me know what you find. I appreciate it. I cannot get the US releases here in France.

(You don't have to watch them, but just look at the jackets in the DVD stores to see if there is an English version on the cover) Thanks!!! Lauren
